Leadership Training: Lesson 18
If you do not believe with all your heart that you are worthy of success and prosperity, then this may prove to be your greatest challenge when it comes to building your own business. The most common reason for feeling this way is low self-esteem, which is most assuredly a result of the way you were brought up. Don't feel bad about it and don't feel that you are alone. This is very common! To help you decide if this is a concern for you, here are a few of its symptoms:
1. Do you give a lot of products away, or sell them at your cost?
2. Are you sometimes apologetic about your prices?
3. Are you often afraid to speak out, even though you have information that could help someone in need?
4. Do you believe that money is the root of all evil? (This comes from a commonly misquoted scripture. The scripture actually reads, "For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil." (1 Tim 6:10, NIV) The scripture clearly indicates that it is greed, and not money, that has a corrupting effect on us.)
If you answered yes to even one of the above four questions, then you should consider working on your self-esteem.
You are undoubtedly in this business to help other people. No one deserves success, including financial success, more than you do! In our society, you can not continue to operate a business unless you have a degree of financial success. The more successful you are, the more people you will be able to reach and help. If you go out of business, think of the people who will suffer because they never heard your message.
Self-esteem is an area that we should all continue to work on. There are many good books available on the subject. Personal counseling, group therapy and even hypnotism have proven helpful for many. It is impossible to have low self-esteem if you know who your true Self is. That is why I like Deepak Chopra's books so much. Two of his books that I can heartily recommend are The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success and Creating Affluence: The A-to-Z Steps to a Richer Life
