Leadership Training: Lesson 12

Integrity

Integrity can be summed up by the "Golden Rule." It means that you treat others the same way that you would like to be treated. To get into the right frame of mind, get into the habit of treating everyone that you come into contact with as if they were a family member. For example; when you are talking to an elderly woman, ask yourself, "What would I recommend to this woman if she were my mother?" If someone is asking for recommendations for their child, "What would I recommend if this were my child?"

Practice this rule consistently and you will never go wrong. If you don't have an answer, tell them so—or better yet—tell them that you will research it and give them a call when you have the answer. But don't do this unless you will follow through with your promise.

Don't make claims of a cure. Nutritional products are sold as dietary supplements only, to help the body in its attempt to heal itself. Explain this to any customers who are looking for a promise of a cure. You can tell them about your past experiences or share testimonials that you have heard from others, (that is one of the many benefits of going to meetings and reading the NSP Forum), but no one knows exactly how their body is going to respond.

No health professional makes guarantees of any kind. Surgeons won't even guarantee that you will wake up after their work is done! The only guarantee that you should make is that you will refund their money if they are dissatisfied with any product that they buy from you.

You will find that returns are rare. But if someone does return a product for whatever reason, even if it has been opened, cheerfully offer to replace it with another product. If they don't want to try another product give them a full refund. (NSP will replace your stock or credit your account for any returned merchandise.)

Treat all NSP members that you meet as if they were in your successline:

Do you hold regular meetings for your members? If a member from another group wanted to come to one of your meetings to learn, would they be welcome? Hopefully your answer is "yes." Isn't that the way you would want to be treated? If another distributor in your area has a lot of members attending your meetings, you should get together with them and share some of the work and expense. Rarely would a distributor refuse such a request. It is clearly in everyone's best interest.

Never try to steal an active member from another group by trying to sign them up under you. However, if their membership has expired, and they request to be signed up under you, don't refuse. Clearly this would be in their best interest since you will be better able to provide them with the service that they are looking for.

In summary, never forget to practice the "Golden Rule"—the best advice anyone has ever been given on the subject of human relations, and the best way to build a people-helping-people business as well.

Remember, you will get what you want, when you are successful at helping other people get what they want.
