Turn Your Goals into Action Steps

Continuing with our discussion of goals...

We have learned that it is critically important to set smart goals, to write them down, and to visualize them. But unfortunately that is not enough. To bring your goals into reality you must also act on them. In other words, you have to get to work!

Turn Your Goals Into Action Steps:

To bring your goals into reality you need to break your long-term goals down into medium-term goals, and then break your medium-term goals down into short-term goals or Action Steps. Your Action Steps are like a "To do" list. This list will tell you what you need to do now, or today. As long as you continue to do your action steps, you will be on track to accomplishing your biggest goals and dreams. Success is virtually insured, providing that you never, ever, ever give up! There are no failures in this business, there are only winners and quitters! Decide now that you will be one of the winners!

Action steps provide the concrete criteria, that we spoke about earlier, for measuring progress toward the attainment of each long and medium-term goal. They allow you to measure your progress, which will help you stay motivated and on track. When you perform an action step and experience the satisfaction of accomplishment, it will provide momentum toward continued success.

When we talked about setting "SMART" goals we learned the value of setting Specific, Measurable, Attainable, and Realistic goals that are Tied to time. That is EXACTLY what Action Steps are!

I hope by now you have acquired a notebook in which you are recording your goals. Look at one of your long-term goals and decide what medium-term goals you will accomplish before you will get there.

Then look at one of your medium-term goals and decide what steps you will accomplish to get there. Those will be your short-term goals.

Now consider what steps you will accomplish to reach your short-term goals, and continue, if necessary, to break your goals down in this manner until you have a list of things that you can do right now. Now make a "To do" list of the things that you would like to accomplish TODAY.

At the end of each day, make your "To do" list for tomorrow. When tomorrow comes you will have your list ready, which will allow you to get right to work without wasting time thinking about what you need to do today. This will allow you to work with an efficiency which will get you to your goals before you know it!

In our next lesson I will elaborate on this topic by providing an example illustrating how to turn your goals into action steps.
