Leadership Training: Lesson 21
Your Distributor Web Site
In past emails I have discussed the importance of having an online presence for your business. I have also strongly recommended a MyNSP.com web site for all NSP distributors who are serious about building a business. But many people have put excellent stores on the web only to find them virtual ghost towns. Let's face it. No matter how great your site is, it will do you little good if you do not get traffic to it. NSP will provide you with an excellent distributor web site at a low cost. But it is entirely up to you to get traffic to your web site. In this lesson and the next few that will follow, I will discuss ways to improve your online presence and get more traffic to your web site.
If you have another web site on which you have health-related information, you can use it to direct traffic to your MyNSP.com site. That's what I do at my theherbspecialist.com. When I discuss a nutritional product on my web site, I don't just mention the product by name. I make it a hyperlink so people can click on it and go directly to the relevant product page on my distributor (MyNSP.com) web site. This is very easy to do. For example, the following link goes directly to the product page on my distributor web site for Fat Grabbers:
The stock number for Fat Grabbers is 3035-9. To make a link to any product you add the stock number after the = sign in the above URL, dropping the dash and the check digit from the stock number. (You will also want to substitute your MyNSP.com user ID for mine.) Alternatively, you can go to your MyNSP.com web site and search for the product and when you get to the product page copy the web address which appears in the location field of your web browser. Make sure that you check all of your links to insure that they work correctly.
If you are going to use your personal web site to direct traffic to your MyNSP.com site, you will also need to get traffic to your personal web site. It is very helpful to get your web site(s) listed in the major search engines that people use when searching for something (like nutritional products) on the web. I have found that a very economical, efficient and effective way to submit your web site to all the major search engines is with a program called AddWeb which you can order at http://www.cyberspacehq.com/products/addweb/. (I purchased the Deluxe version of AddWeb, which costs considerably less than the professional version. There are a few limitations with the Deluxe version, for example you can only submit 3 web pages at a time, but after you submit the three pages, you can submit 3 more, etc. There are a few other features that are not included as well, but they are features that I didn't care about anyway. I am very happy with mine.)
Instead of paying someone a high fee to submit your web site for you, you can own the program that they use and submit your web sites as many times as you want. Don't just submit your main page. Submit some of your most important sub pages as well. I suggest that you use the program to submit your web pages once every month. But don't expect overnight results. One thing that search engines weigh is longevity. That means that the longer your site is online the better chance you will have of getting a spot close to the top in their search results.
Before you submit your web site to search engines, you should know something about optimizing your site for search engines. This will help you get a higher listing in their searches. You have no control over the optimization of your MyNSP.com site, but you might have another web site, such as a personal site, that you do have control over. To learn about optimizing your web site for search engines read the following web page: http://www.bruceclay.com/web_rank.htm
The above web page is just one of many that are available online with useful information for helping you get traffic to your web site. To find others do an internet search for "search engine optimization." There is a wealth of helpful information that is available for free. Some will try to sell you something. Before you consider paying them high fees to submit your web site for you, remember that you can purchase the AddWeb program yourself and do it for yourself at a fraction of the cost. And if you own the program, you can submit as many pages as you like as many times as you want to. Why buy the milk when you can own the cow for about the same price, and quite possibly for even less?
If you operate your own personal web site, you absolutely have to key word optimize your pages for search engines. The best tool that I have found for researching and targeting effective key words is Wordtracker. They also have an online tutorial to teach you how to use their tools to select good key words, and how to use them on your web pages to optimize them for search engines. Wordtracker is a wonderful tool that I can not recommend highly enough!
How effective are these tools? I have used all of the above mentioned tools to optimize my web site Natural Health School. As of this writing, if you do a Google search for "natural health school" you will find that my site will come up as number one! With millions of web sites on the internet, Google is extremely competitive. There are companies who pay millions to get close to the top on a Google search. I do no paid advertising online, but I have invested in AddWeb and Wordtracker. You be the judge of their effectiveness.
Note that I did not try to get a good position for a generic key word like "herbs" or "vitamins" the competition is just too great. Even the key word "Nature's Sunshine" is extremely competitive and it is nearly impossible to get a good position using it. I believe that one of the keys to success with this strategy is to employ some key words that are not widely in use by other web sites. With the millions of web sites on the web, you can imagine the difficulty of this task. That is why you need Wordtracker.
Remember, you can not optimize your mynsp.com site, but you can any other personal pages that you maintain that are linked to your mynsp.com pages. You should be aware that even under the best of circumstances, it may take months before you start seeing your results on search engines. There is a lot of competition for key words, and so it is extremely difficult to get good positions on search engines (unless you are willing to spend a lot of money paying for one of those "sponsored links" that you see at the top of each search.)
Wishing You the Best in Health and Prosperity!
